Report on Panel Discussion on GST V EPS & PSECO

The students of V BA PSEco and EPS organized a panel discussion on GST and its implications on the Indian Economy in Room No.201 block I from 10.00-11.00 am on 15-7-2017. The audience for the program included students from V EPS and PSEco. There were four panelists and one moderator for the discussion. The panelists were Vaishnavi Kamala Kanukruti, Amrita Ragavendran, Vinayasree Vinod (V PSECO), and Jesvin P Joseph (V EPS). The discussion was moderated by Ria Jose from V EPS. The moderator sets the tone for the discussion by giving an overview of GST and to what extent it is confirming to the canons of taxation. Among the four panelists, Vaishnavi spoke on the features of GST and the difference of GST from the existing tax system. Vinayashree threw light upon the calculation part of GST and its impact on the incidence of taxation. Amrita Rahavendran discussed the effect of GST on different sectors of the Indian economy. Jesvin Joseph highlighted the merits and demerits associated with the implementation of GST in India. Following the discussion by the panelists, the audience engaged in a comprehensive question-answer session. Questions were raised about the probable implications of GST on state tax revenue, compensation formula, registration for the GST compliance, and the reasons for low tax on gold. The discussion was concluded by the moderator by consolidating the discussion points given by the panelists.
